About Ben White
From 16 years under the bonnet to AI strategy.
One person. Real experience. No shortcuts.
Mechanic → AI Strategist
Not a sudden pivot — a 16-year foundation that makes everything I do for businesses now authentic and practical.
Racing & Football
Started racing stock cars aged 12 with my dad — number 10 on the car. Won British Championships, World Cups, English and European Championships. Captained Langley Old Boys FC to a cup final victory.
Apprenticeship
Started my apprenticeship at a garage in Wraysbury, Berkshire. Qualified at Langley College, then went to work alongside my dad and his business partner in the car trade.
KB Auto Tech
Started my own business with £600 and a handful of tools. Built the entire business through word of mouth alone. Never advertised once. Over 16 years became a fully qualified master technician.
The MMT King
Specialised in Toyota, Peugeot, and Citroën semi-automatic transmissions. Vehicles delivered from Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, and Holland. Customers called me 'the MMT King' and 'the Magician.'
The Crash & The Pivot
Ruptured appendix, slipped disc, sciatica. Sitting in Ibiza unable to move — money in the bank but unable to enjoy it. The realisation: when you stop, the money stops. Everything depended on me physically turning up.
Deep into AI
Three intensive years of self-education: digital marketing, AI, prompt engineering, LLMs, automations, web development. Pivoted the mechanical business into MMT Experts — higher money, fewer hours, freeing time to study.
Devon & BW-AI Launch
Moving to Devon for a quieter, more intentional life. BW-AI built to serve fewer people, better — maximum 10 clients at any time. Done with the burnout model. Bridging the gap between trade experience and AI innovation.
The Mechanic
I started my apprenticeship as a mechanic at a garage in Wraysbury, Berkshire, qualified at Langley College, and then went to work alongside my dad and his business partner in the car trade. I repaired the cars while they sold them.
Eventually I started my own business — KB Auto Tech — with about £600 and a handful of tools. I built the entire business through word of mouth alone. Never advertised once. Never even had a website. Over 16 years I became a fully qualified master technician, specialising in Toyota, Peugeot, and Citroën semi-automatic transmission systems. Vehicles were delivered to my workshop from Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, and even Holland. Customers called me "the MMT King" and "the Magician."
My approach was simple: understand the problem before you try to fix it. I'd strip down damaged parts on my own time in the evenings to figure out exactly what went wrong — not because anyone asked me to, but because I wanted to find repairs instead of just swapping expensive parts. That drive to find real fixes is the same mindset I bring to businesses now.
In 14 years of trading, only two people ever didn't pay me. I attribute that to trust. I always tried to be fair, honest, and reasonable. I'd find cheaper parts, offer discounts to people in difficulty, and let people pay later — and it almost always worked out because people appreciated it.
The Crash
What people never saw was the reality behind the scenes. I was up at 6am and often still in the workshop at 9pm. In the evenings: pricing jobs, ordering parts, sorting invoices, searching the internet for diagnostic solutions. The workshop was always fully booked — and as any mechanic knows, a car comes in for a routine service and turns out to need 8 hours of work.
Outside of work, I raced stock cars with my dad. I'd been racing since I was 12 or 13. My racing number was 10 — same as my dad's — and people started calling me "Ben 10." I won British Championships, World Cups, English Championships, and European Championships. I also played football as a striker and captained Langley Old Boys to a cup final victory. These weren't hobbies — they were my identity.
But my body couldn't keep up. I had to give up racing first. Then football. Then my appendix ruptured during a weekend away. I drove everyone home instead of causing a fuss. After 14 hours in the waiting room at A&E, doctors rushed me straight to surgery — I was one of the most critical patients there.
I went back to work after three weeks because I couldn't afford not to. Then came a slipped disc. Sciatica. My dad had suffered with it his whole life — I'd watched him crawl to the toilet. The realisation that I now faced the same condition hit hard.
"I was sitting in Ibiza Rocks Hotel — one of the best places in the world — unable to move. Money in the bank but unable to enjoy it. Phone ringing constantly. That's when it hit me: when you stop, the money stops. Everything I'd built depended on me physically turning up."
The Pivot
The revelation came in hospital: if you can't physically turn up, all the years of building drain away. I needed a digital income.
I enrolled in a digital marketing course, then quickly realised AI was what was actually coming — and it was going to change everything. So I retrained again. I spent three intensive years in self-education: digital marketing, AI, prompt engineering, large language models, automations, web development. I invested thousands in courses and tested more tools than most people would in a decade.
Meanwhile I still needed to earn. So I pivoted the mechanical business into MMT Experts — serving only the specialist transmission niche. Higher money per job, fewer hours, freeing up time to study. I built a website and got it to number one on search engines — all organic, never a single paid ad. Caption marketing, content positioning, inventive strategies that cost nothing.
During this period I was diagnosed with ADHD. It initially shocked me but ultimately made sense — it explained my ability to think 6 to 9 steps ahead, which had made me an exceptional diagnostician as a mechanic and now serves me well in AI strategy. Once I conquered the difficulty in starting things, the ADHD became a superpower for seeing patterns, opportunities, and futures that others couldn't.
Eventually I had to make a hard decision. I stopped listening to everyone — even my dad, even sometimes my partner — turned my phone off, and locked in. I could see what AI was going to do to every small business around me: every plumber, landscaper, hairdresser, and car dealer who'd ever brought their van to my workshop. I understood their businesses because I'd spent 16 years hearing their problems while fixing their vehicles.
Who I Am Now
I'm a 35-year-old AI-first specialist with a combination that's genuinely rare: 16 years of real-world trade experience plus 3 years of intensive AI and digital education. I understand your problems because I've lived them — and I know how to solve them with technology that's actually ready.
I'm moving to Devon with my partner for a quieter, more intentional life. I've deliberately built BW-AI to serve fewer people, better — a maximum of 10 clients at any time, each getting my full attention. I'm done with the burnout model. I know exactly what that leads to.
Most AI consultants are either lifelong developers who speak in jargon or marketers who've never run a real business. I'm neither. I bridge both worlds — and that's what makes BW-AI different.
"I built BW-AI to be the business I wish I'd had access to when I was a mechanic."
Not Your Typical AI Consultant
Most AI consultants are pure tech people who speak jargon, or marketers who've never run a real business. I bridge both worlds.
16 Years in Trade
I understand the daily pressures of tradespeople and small business owners because I lived them. The phone that never stops. The cashflow worries. The customers who need everything yesterday.
3 Years Deep in AI
Not surface-level knowledge — deep, broad understanding across automations, marketing, web development, AI tools, large language models, and emerging technology. I study this every single day.
Proven Organic Growth
Scaled my own business to #1 on search engines without ever running a paid ad. I've never used paid advertising in my entire career. Organic strategies are my specialty.
A Diagnostic Mindset
As a master technician, my instinct is to understand WHY something isn't working before proposing a fix. I strip problems down, find the root cause, and build solutions. Same approach, different tools.
Genuine Empathy
I don't just understand your problems intellectually. I've felt the burnout. The broken body. The phone that never stops. The fear of falling behind. I went through all of it and came out the other side.
Forward-Thinking Optimism
While many people are scared of the future and worried about AI, I wake up excited. I see opportunity everywhere — and my role is to bring that opportunity to your business in a way that's practical and safe.
Why I Limit Myself to 10 Clients
The number 10 has personal significance — it was my racing number, my dad's sprint car number, my football shirt number. But beyond that, limiting myself to 10 clients means I can give each one my full attention. No outsourcing. No junior staff doing the work while I take the credit. Just me, fully embedded in your business.
Time is the real product. Everything I build — automations, websites, marketing systems — is designed to give you your time back. What you do with that time is up to you: spend it with family, learn a new skill, grow your business further, or simply breathe.
